A row of 5 modern terraced houses

Sometimes planning restrictions and the proximity of a property to neighbouring gardens can raise planning issues. In this case, the property developer had tried to obtain planning permission with another architect, yet the application had been refused. The client simply wanted to maximise the existing plot so we were instructed to help.

As most of our team are former local authority planning officers, we decided to reverse engineer our approach so we could address any planning constraints from the outset. We created five new houses with breathable and versatile open plan living spaces with heaps of natural light. We were also able to extend into the loft spaces, where we managed to comfortably fit a master bedroom, complete with an en-suite bathroom and even a walk-in wardrobe.

This project’s completion was especially satisfying due to the dramatic transformation of the previously vacant site. Due to parking restrictions on the site local residents were insistent that each new house benefit from off street parking. Our creative architects designed a staggered front elevation to accommodate a car for each house which the neighbours were very happy with.
